Over and over again, we were told we would love Paris. After our visit, we completely agree: this city seems to good to be true. How can one place contain so much elegance, history, fashion, intrigue, and amazing food? It seems unfair to all the other places in the world.
We took a walking tour our first day (side note: do not miss the free Sandeman’s New Walking Tours, in most major European cities). It reminded us of how much we are impacted by France and Paris: historically, by the Holy Roman Wars and architectural designs, culturally by food and trends and even vocabulary. We also enjoyed, just for fun, seeing the spot where Liam Neeson jumped off a Parisian bridge in Taken, where Jason Bourne scoped out a meeting at the end of Bourne Identity, and where Anne Hathaway said goodbye to Meryl Streep at the close of Devil Wears Prada.
Memorable moments in Paris:
- Eating surprisingly tasty snails, drenched in spinach and garlic butter with our wonderful French hostess, Elisa Duflot.
- Being evacuated from three public areas for terrorist threats/bomb scares
-Visiting all those places you read about and discovering they are better than you imagined: Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, the Opera House, Versailles
- Meeting only friendly people in Paris. Some were too friendly but that’s another story.
-NOT getting our pockets picked.
- Eating enough chocolate croissants to supply a small orphanage.
J’aim Paris!
