  • Bullfights, Boondles, Bedtimes, and Bonding

When you’re in a foreign country, you can have an instant connection and become bonded together with very recent acquaintances. One of our favorite things in Spain has been discovering how deep and precious a 3-day old friendship can be.

One of our focuses in countries we visit is to find a local church to attend or missionary to encourage. In Madrid, we visited Immanuel Baptist Church, and met a wonderful group and instantly bonded. We’ve known them for three days, but already we’ve been to their houses (and almost spent the night), gone shopping together, talked about our relationships with the Lord, heard about our families, made a meal together, been to a flamenco ballet, and even been offered marijuana together (it’s apparently much more socially acceptable here - three offers in one night!)

Another of our favorite things here in Spain is the bedtimes…right now it’s 4:30 AM and we just returned to our hotel. And it’s perfectly normal and natural. I’m not even going to tell you what time we slept til this afternoon to compensate for that late bedtime, but let’s just say we’re almost back on California time.

Our least favorite part of Spain? The bullfights. Call us naive and innocent, but we didn’t realize that in the bullfight, the bull gets killed. Brutally, bloodily, horrifically. We like our cheeseburgers as much as the next girl, and actually, we probably like them a little more than most, but do they really have to dissect a living being as a national sport? We got the best seats in the house and then watched in horror as the animal was tortured and stabbed to death. Let’s just say that Rachel’s outcries of shock and disgust made us not so very loved in our seating area.

Last but not least…boondles. There is a fabulous fashion trend here that Sarah spotted for the first time and you might want to watch for….boots that are also sandals.

Headed to Toledo and Alicante tomorrow…thanks for reading :)
