As we traveled through the airport, on our way from Alicante to Newquay, England, I (Sarah) turned to Rachel and said, “Gosh, it’s kind of fun to go through an airport and not have 50 people with us.” We love traveling with missions teams, but there are certain conveniences to traveling with a group of two rather than a group of 50+.
We arrived safely at CreationFest in Cornwall, England, and it has been so fun to reunite with old friends from America and the UK. We’ve only been gone all of three weeks, but it felt like a celebrated reunion after long absences to see some of these friends. With a few, it has been three or more years since we have seen them, but it never ceases to amaze us how relationships and friendships within the body of Christ are unchanged by time and space.
There is a little boy here who we both especially love…his name is Sam Dix, and there is a photo of him with Sarah above. He is absolutely charming, and he wraps his little arms around us and says, “I love you. It’s so nice to see you once a year.” Seriously. He couldn’t be any cuter. Picture him saying that with a darling British accent, and you’ll have a snapshot of what he is like.
It’s only our first day at the festival, but we’ve both been able to hear some amazing testimonies of God’s salvation in the lives of people we met last year and see how knowing Jesus has changed them completely, laughed with old friends and made some new ones, and learned that the peace sign in England is definitely equivalent to flipping someone off (or actually worse).
Perhaps the best part of all is hearing how God has shown His specific love and care to dear friends here. One of our friends nearly died giving birth to her beautiful baby girl earlier this year, and while she was in the operating room, her husband was led to read Psalm 55:22. Almost immediately after reading it himself, a missionary who didn’t know anything about the situation texted the husband that he felt he was urgently meant to read the same verse. It’s so sweet to know that God cares about every moment and need in our lives. The wife and baby are both happy, healthy, and radiant.
Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
